Research Areas: Molecular/Genomic epidemiology of malaria
I am involved in translational research into malaria and other parasitic infectious diseases with the ultimate goal of applying genomic research output to inform malaria control and elimination. I focus on how genetic variation influence the epidemiology and pathogenicity of malaria and its implication on therapeutic and vaccination strategies and malaria control in general. In addition I have a keen interest in using population genetics strategies to identify genetic loci that contribute to drug resistance in P. falciparum and the development of genomic tools to characterize P. falciparum diversity in the population. I am also involved in the functional Immunogenetics of Malaria specifically, identification of P. falciparum genetic markers of virulence and selective forces that shape virulence evolution and their association with P. falciparum infection outcomes.
