YL Lau’s lab is currently focusing on the study of primary immunodeficiency (PID) or inborn errors of immunity (IEI), in particular using NGS to help diagnosis as well as facilitating discovery of novel genes underlying the PID/IEI. YL lab has confirmed the genetic diagnosis of over 800 patients among 1900 patients suspected to have PID/IEI, referred to the lab from over 70 hospitals/institutes in Asia and Africa. With our colleagues, YL lab has identified novel genes/mutations, including TCF3 with Ridha Barbouche’s lab. As of now, YL lab is working on a new exome PLUS approach by designing probes that will cover both exons and introns as well as untranslated regions for the most common PID/IEI genes, in addition to exome analysis, in order to increase the sensitivity to detect structural and deep intron variants.
