The Cellular Immunology Laboratory is affiliated at the Department of Immunology Institut Pasteur d’Algérie. Its main activity is the exploration of primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs), which are rare genetic diseases. Despite their rarity and because of the relatively high consanguinity rate in our population, we have collected an important series. The diagnostic activity includes: the study of cellular markers by flow cytometry, the functional evaluation of phagocytes (bactericidal), the evaluation of post-vaccinal antibodies production . We also perform genetic analysis for some PIDs, like: MHC class II deficiency, agammaglobulinemia, leukocyte adhesion deficiencies.
In addition to the study of PIDs, we carry out the evaluation of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinura and the viro-immunological follow-up of patients infected with HIV. We have been involved in various research projects with Pasteur Institute of Tunis, Morocco and university of Hong Kong. Currently, we are preparing a submission for a national research project on PIDs.
