Ridha’s lab investigates the molecular basis of Primary Immune Deficiencies (PIDs). PIDs include more than 300 genetic disorders of the immune system that predispose patients to infections, autoimmune diseases, allergy and malignancy. In North Africa, the frequency of PIDs is higher than in other regions of the world due to consanguineous marriages. In this context, the study of informative consanguineous families did allow the identification of novel genes and the dissection of pathways involved in a variety of immune responses.
