Our laboratory investigates the principles that regulate the magnitude and phases of the immune response. How do we mount an immune response capable of protection against pathogens, yet avoid causing self-harm? How does the immune system transitions from innate to adaptive immunity and then to resolution? Immune cells also trigger repair responses responsible for “rebuilding” after damage. Dysregulation of any of these steps can cause pathological inflammation, autoimmunity, scarring or fibrosis. Furthermore, these responses underlie a variety of diseases (i.e. neurodegeneration, cancer). Discovering the molecular mechanisms that control the magnitude and phase-transition of the immune response can reveal novel therapeutic targets and approaches.
