The Immunology platform is an entity in IRESSEF (Institute of Health Research, Epidemiological Surveillance and Training) headed by a full professor of the Universities of Dakar, assisted by a varied staff including assistants, biologists, engineer and other technicians. It is a framework of excellence for control and research on HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and some re-emerging infectious diseases. This platform makes it possible to develop local expertise in the different fields of infectious pathology, to provide answers to various health problems for our populations and to give directives to the leaders.
The following objectives:
- Strengthening IRESSEF as a center of excellence for teaching, training and research in Immunology, Microbiology and Vaccinology
- Evaluation of new diagnostic tools (“biomarkers”) and monitoring for the control of infectious diseases: HIV, TB, Malaria, Schistosomiasis, Ebola, etc.
- Strengthening of the quality control system for national laboratories, especially for the CD4 T lymphocyte count also the proficiency tests for immunological techniques such as the separation and cells conservation, ELISPOT etc.
- Exploration of immunological mechanisms of resistance or susceptibility to infections
Our main objectives are to identify and select deletion mutations in IFN- γ and IL-12 and assess the implications of these deletion mutations in the emergence of MDR-TB.
